Costa Rica was described as the safest nation of Latin America for industralists and multinational companies, according to the last index of Latin Security done by FTI Consulting Ibero America, for the Latin weekly magazine Business Chronic of Miami.
The study on security was made based on the statistics of the police, public institutions and ONG of year 2007. The index measures the level of danger in each country assigning points from 1 to 5, 1 for the safest country and 5 for the insecurest.
Only three countries in Latin America scored 2: Costa Rica, Chile and Uruguay. Joachim Bamrud, director of Latin Business Chronicle, commented that even when those countries had the same qualification, the index determined that Costa Rica is the safest nation.
The previous year Chile was safest, which means that Costa Rica has raised "it is based in information of rate as homicides, crimes, robberies and assaults. The information is obtained from the police, organizations public and private specialized institutes and ONG.
This helps the country to attract more foreign investments", said Bamrud.
Nicaragua was described like the second country of Central America more surely. The other nations of the isthmus were described as high danger. Brazil and Mexico, the greater economies of Latin America, received 4 points, just like the last year. That means that both are between the five more dangerous nations in the region.
Haiti received a qualification of 5 becoming the most dangerous of Latin America. "It continues having civil disturbances and political, an extremely high level of homicides and other crimes", it said to Frank Holder, in charge of the study for Latin Business Chronic and expert in security in Latin America.
